Lots of new pics added to the Tribute to Soundwave web site, in the
Toys and Artifacts sections. Some images have only become available
recently, and some should have been there long ago. I've been using
my Soundwave placemat for years, for instance, and never thought to
take a picture. Also added some music links ... how can you have a
Soundwave site without music links? :)

More goodies to come....

Great job on the Tribute to Soundwave... Love the water effects, it
gives a nice serene feeling. That's quite a collection of toys and
artifacts! I enjoyed re-reading the essays. BTW you do a wonderful job
playing Sondwave on TFDD MUSH. Even Soundwave is allowed to get
ticked-off every once in awhile. To be faultless is to be lifeless and
the way you write Soundwave made a cartoon character who was "just
there" into a potent, quietly charismatic officer of the Decepticon
Empire. Also a great parental-unit to his creations.

Your essays and fanfics taught me to see Megatron and Soundwave in
a way only seen in the briefest moments in the cartoons. Thank you.
Always looking forward to future writings and insights. ;)

Glad you've been enjoying the essays/Mush logs/etc., and thanks for
the words of encouragement. :) Though I never saw Soundwave as
someone who was "just there," I have to say. His personality
practically jumped off the screen at me - a nearly immediate, osmotic,
full-scale understanding of who this individual was, what he was all
about, what mattered to him, and what his most overriding quality was
(loyalty). Of course, the details were filled in with subsequent
viewing, but much like I had a "revelation" and "got" Starscream
though that single split-second scene in "War of the Dinobots," so
Soundwave "came to me" after only the briefest of exposure. Those who
didn't see much personality in him, were probably having their
attention diverted to characters who pushed their way more insistently
into the forefront - and there were lots of those, among the
Decepticons. But without Soundwave, the whole thing would have fallen
apart. He was always the binding force, the guiding hand, the calm
serenity in the midst of chaos. He may not have said much unless it
was absolutely necessary, but he was always there, always watching out
for the group while the others postured and squabbled.
I should also say that Soundwave is very very difficult to get
right, in RP. In part because I'm too different from him, by nature,
to easily slip into his mindset; in part because the situations he
finds himself in, in the Mush environment, often force him to take a
more direct leadership role than he ordinarily would; and in part
because, who really *could* live up to Soundwave? I feel that I do
better with him in fanfic than in weekly Mush RP. Every now and
again, though, a situation comes up that really lets Soundwave "come
through" as he was meant to be.... (I know, I know ... I need to post
those logs...)

When there *were* only brief moments, though, this is what you have to
extrapolate on and build from. The brief moments are that much more
precious ... and I remain impressed beyond words that the writers of
the cartoon could turn the sketchiest of character outlines into an
entire series full of genuine, multifaceted, believable *individuals*.
Truly one of the highlights of BotCon '04, was getting to meet some of
those writers and getting to thank them in person.
